Assalamualaikum
The other day, we all went for team lunch at TGIF...for those of you who's unfamiliar with corporate world, normally, when you go out to eat as a team, the highest ranking person in the group should pay the bill and it has become a norm among all that this would be the best time to rip off your bosses.(they'll be claiming it back from the company anyway, no harm)
So what's the most expensive, delicious meal available? Rib eye! So among 11 of us, 5 of us ordered that! Our orders came...and suddenly it sank in. Our lead is vegetarian! and we have one other colleague who can't eat beef too! and here we are, presenting the terrifying looking rib, right in front of them. My lead sat in front of two rib eaters and our intern sat in between two rib eaters.
They don't have to say anything, the look on their faces said it all.
The same thing happen once before too. After we decided to have lunch at Ikea, we all were salivating, talking non stop about their meatball totally clueless that one of our non-beef eater friend was so quiet the whole time. When she asked us what should she eat, we even clueless-ly suggested meatball.
We're bunch of clueless, insensitive people. T-T
Imagine if the situation was reverse. What if we have went to a non halal restaurant and 5 of my colleagues ordered pork and ate them in front of me? What would I have felt? This is seriously a wake up call for all of us. While we're expecting others to be sensitive about us, we have to be sensitive about other people too. It has to be both ways.
*slap some sense to self*
