I joined my first ever @sumijones book club instalive session last Wednesday and I am really glad I did. I've watched her other instalives but this is my first book club session attendance. As always, she broke down the session into two parts, the first one is the actual book club session and the second part is just random topic that she wished to discuss. That night, she was talking about IQ, EQ and spiritual intelligence.
The one that touched me the most is when she talk about spiritual intelligence. She discussed in depth about what she feel about this verse in Quran,
Now, if you don't know Kak Sumi, let me tell you about her. She is not by any mean, a religious person....at least not how we Malays define religious. She talks a lot and sometimes about crap that doesn't even make sense. She's considerably weird, although that is debatable because everyone is weird in their own way but let's all just settle with she's not the normal typical goody-goody person....but she is very self-aware, she knows herself, the good, the bad and the weird.....However, putting aside all that, I really like her :P ......which is something that most of my friends don't agree with because again, she's not your typical perfect role model but that's the thing, I like her because she is not perfect.
She is like the majority of us, she's not perfect, yet, she doesn't shy away from sharing what she knows about the good stuff, about how she perceive an ideal way of living should be, she's brutally honest she even share her actual struggle in life.....if non of this make sense to you, basically I am saying she's nowhere near level ustaz ustazah, yet, she still share about things that she hopes she will do istiqamahly although she hasn't fully does those things yet.
so that night, she talked about her struggle to fully submit to that verse. In the beginning, she thought that that verse is only for the pious ones, the ustazah ustazah ones, but after learning deeper into it, she came to the conclusion that no, that is not for the ones who's already there, but it is actually for all muslim.
Her struggle with that word initially is because things like, although she wants to do religious things all day everyday every minute, she also loves sex (her words not mine), dance, foods and a lot more non religious stuff. So she wasn't ready to forgo all those things for what she initially perceived as "surely my prayer, my sacrifice, my life, my death are (all) for Allah, the Lord of the worlds". After a loooonnngggg session of studying, she realised, that that verse is not about only doing religious stuff. It's about awareness. That whatever we do, is for the sake of Allah. For example, He gave us mouth and tongue not only for zikir and read Quran, it's for eating and chatting too and he gave us a body not to only pray 24/7, it's to have a good sex life with our partner (the halal one) too! (again, her words not mine :P )
Does that makes sense? In short, as long as we are aware that whatever we have is because of our master, Allah, as long as we are always grateful for that, I guess, we are good to go.
